Form Submissions Can Begin January 15, 2019

According to an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website release on Friday, December 28, 2018, the filing season for Tax Year 2018 Affordable Care Act Information Returns (AIR)  Production for Forms 1094 B/C and Forms 1095 B/C will go live at approximately 9 a.m. EST on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Employers, insurance carriers, insurance issuers, government agencies, ACA solution providers, and third parties who would submit returns either for their own company and/or for other companies can use the AIR system to file beginning that date and time. The ACA information returns include:

  • Form 1094-B, Transmittal of Health Coverage Information Returns
  • Form 1095-B, Health Coverage
  • Form 1094-C, Transmittal of Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage Information Returns
  • Form 1095-C, Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage

Any new filer would need to apply for the Affordable Care Act Application for Transmitter Control Code (TCC).

The December 28th IRS release also noted prior year returns, including corrections and replacements, can be electronically filed once production goes live.

IRS Filing Deadlines

February 28, 2019 – Deadline for 2018 filing with the IRS in paper form
March 4, 2019– Deadline to provide 2018 Forms 1095-B and 1095-C to individuals
April 1, 2019– Deadline for 2018 filing with the IRS electronically
